Step 1: Buy a garlic head Purchase a head of garlic from your local grocery store or nursery. Larger heads work best for growing indoors.
Step 2: Fill pot with soil Fill a large pot with enriched potting soil. Break the head of garlic apart, but don't peel the cloves. Plant several cloves at least six inches apart and two to three inches deep in the soil.
Step 3: Place pot in sunlight Place the pot in an area that gets plenty of direct sunlight.
Step 4: Maintain your cloves Water your cloves every few days over the next two weeks, but be careful not to over-water. If the soil feels dry to the touch, water is needed.
